Summer Intensive Language Program Overview
6 credits for a 4 week program, 12 credits for an 8 week program, or 1.5 credits per week. Other program lengths and credit hours are availbale. 20 academic hours of instruction per week are combined with learning activities outside of classroom. Students will live either in student apartments or with host families in Kharkiv, Ukraine, allowing for a full immersion into the language and culture. You may indicate your preferences on the housing questionnaire form of the online application.
Students will have an orientation upon arrival in Kharkiv, Ukraine. You will learn about the city, the university and meet local students from the first days abroad. The EESA onsite representatives will meet you at the airport upon arrival and will be available 24/7 during your entire stay abroad with EESA.
Students in the EESA community receive strong pre-departure and on-site support. Your EESA advisor will help you through the application process, and on-site staff will be available to answer any questions upon arrival. We do our best to ensure that your experience with EESA is safe, fulfilling and rewarding!
Cell phones are mandatory for all students while studying abroad with EESA. Phones must be charged and turned on at all times. EESA staff will provide you with a local SIM card with the first month prepaid. Your plan will cost under $5 per months and will include calling, text messages, and data. If you plan on bringing your current cell phone with you to Ukraine, please make sure that it is unlocked to operate with a GSM sim card. If it's not unlocked, it might be cheaper to purchase a basic cell phone upon arrival. Your EESA advisor will help you choose the best option prior to departure.
EESA does not provide any medical insurance. Students shall consider obtaining necessary coverage prior to departure. If a medical need arises, students shall notify an on-site EESA representative, who will be able to advise them on choosing the hospital or the doctor, and if needed, help with scheduling an appointment, provide translation services and assure that the overall health and safety of the student is taken care of. Kharkiv is a large city with many quality medical facilities available. A visit to a doctor at a high quality private clinic costs $10-$15. Local EESA staff members will assist with any necessary arrangements.
A passport valid for at least 6 months after the end date of the EESA program is required. If you don’t already have one, you should apply for a passport immediately. It takes 4-6 weeks to get a passport and the cost is approximately $140. For passport application acceptance facilities, go to: http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/.

Summer and short term students are not required to obtain any visa. If you are a not a U.S. citizen, please contact us as soon as possible to receive assistance in obtaining any applicable visas.
