While participating on the EESA’s Summer Intensive Language Program, students will go on several excursions including Kyiv, Kharkiv and an optional trip to the Black Sea at the end of the program. Excursions in Kyiv and Kharkiv are included in the cost of the program, but the trip to the Black Sea is optional and includes additional fees. Students will arrive in Kyiv where orientation will be held and language placement tests will be given.
You will spend two days in Kyiv participating on guided tours of the city. You will see almost everything that Kyiv has to offer, starting with Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square). This is Kyiv’s main square, and is located on Kreschatyk Street, a very interesting street because it is about one mile long and is considered to be the widest, but the shortest comparing to other main streets of the world. You will visit several breathtaking cathedrals including St. Michaels’s Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Church and St. Sophia’s Cathedral. In addition you will see Kiev Pechersk Lavra, the famous Motherland Monument, Pinchuk Art Gallery, the Great Patriotic War Museum, the Golden Gates Monument, the President’s Palace, the Arch of Friendship, Mariyinskiy Palace, the National Bank of Ukraine, Pirogova which is a beautiful outdoor museum of traditional Ukrainian folklore, the National Theatre and the famous House with Chimeras. Kharkiv, Ukraine is the host city of the summer language program. There will be organized city tours of Kharkiv, visits to museums, theaters, sports events and more. The host city Kharkiv is a scientific, educational and cultural center of Ukraine. Ukrainians often refer to Kharkiv as Ukraine’s student city because of its numerous (over 30) universities, colleges and technical institutions. Kharkiv is a mediums size city with a population of 1.5 million people. There are a lot of cafes, restaurants, shopping centers, parks and other options for entertainment, such as a professional soccer game where you can meet local people and other international students.
