EESA program in 2014 and beyond

Oct 31, 2014

The revolution in Ukraine and events that followed in the spring and summer 2014 have created safety concerns for EESA to host students in Ukraine. Although the conflict exists in a very small area of the country, and the majority of Ukrainian towns and cities (including Kharkiv) continue to live a normal and peaceful life, EESA made a decision to not host the regular summer and semester study abroad programs in 2014. We look forward to the situation stabilizing in a very near future and are prepared to welcome students again in the spring 2015 semester. Meanwhile, EESA has successfully launched the online language immersion program with the first group completing their 8-week study in June and July 2014.

Looking into the future, EESA has made a decision to remove academic field trips to Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg) from our programs. Students may travel to those cities on their own and the EESA on-site staff will be happy to help with suggestions for those trips. The semester and year programs now include academic field trips to 7 cities in 5 countries. During the summer travel study abroad program, students visit 7 cities in Eastern and Western Europe.

EESA is now offering various options for learning Russian or Ukrainian language from home with a highly qualified professor from Karazin Kharkiv National University. The course consists of several hours each day of live video conferences with a professor and assignments to complete at home. This is as close as you get to language immersion without traveling to the country. EESA online Russian language program is a great option for students or adults who wish to improve their Russian or Ukrainian. Students planning to study abroad with EESA in the future are encouraged to take some online courses beforehand in order to be more prepared for their time abroad. This is a good opportunity for adults who wish to learn Russian for business or personal reasons. Online language courses are offered for all levels in either group or individual instruction. All program alumni will receive official transcripts from Karazin Kharkiv National University, and could use these credits for transferring to other universities.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us any time to discuss your study abroad plans and any questions you may have!
