COVID-19 Update from Eastern European Study Abroad

Dec 01, 2021

2022-2023: Onsite and online programs available

All EESA programs are offered onsite and online. Karazin University is open at a limited capacity adhering to quarantine guidelines. EESA students are allowed to come to classes in person with no more than 5 students in a room at a time. Masks and social distancing policy are enforced in the university and throughout Kharkiv, Ukraine. We are currently accepting applications for the following programs:

Fall Semester 2022, Spring Semester 2023, academic year 2022-2023, and all summer programs for 2022 and 2023.

The same programs are offered online with the option of earning transfer credits.

From the Executive Director of Eastern European Study Abroad:

Olga Chase, Executive Director of Eastern European Study AbroadThe health and safety of our students, staff and the people around us has always been our top priority. In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, EESA moved all the classes to online learning in March 2019. All of our staff are working from home, and we encourage everyone to do their part and practice social distancing.

During these uncertain times, it may be hard to plan for future travels and learning experiences abroad. We are ready to provide onsite programs again when it's safe. We understand the students’ concerns, as we are in this fight against the pandemic together. From our side, EESA has waived all the cancellation or change of program fees. We postponed the deadline to May 1 for any current outstanding payments for summer/fall programs. Our staff is monitoring the situation closely and any decisions we make regarding the programs are out of putting students’ safety first. As of now, the summer programs are scheduled to run as planned. However, if the coronavirus situation does not improve, if there are travel restrictions in place, if the programs are cancelled or if students do not feel safe to travel abroad, we pledge to offer an alternative program for different dates, an online program, or a full refund of all fees except for the application fee.

Here are the programs we encourage you to apply for now:

Online Russian language or online Ukrainian language. Take this opportunity now to devote some time to learning a new language or improving your skills. Many experienced professors, who are also native speakers are ready to teach you individually or in small groups. College credits are available for these courses.

Summer 2022 language program in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Come discover the city voted the best for living in Ukraine four years in a row. Kharkiv is a student capital, cultural, and educational center. The programs will only take place if it is safe to do so.

Fall and academic year programs 2022-2023. EESA offers 2 types of programs here:

1. A semester/year in Kharkiv, Ukraine with classes in English and academic field trips to 6 major cities in Europe.

2. The language program is available for any number of weeks any time of the year. A semester program costs $4,440.

I encourage everyone to follow health officials' advice, practice social distancing, and adhere to the guidelines set by the government.

Sincerely,

Olga Chase signature
