Update about Safety in Ukraine

Just a couple of days ago, EESA sent an email regarding student safety in Ukraine. Within only 24 hours, Putin received parliamentary permission to use Russian troops in Ukraine. EESA made a decision to evacuate the students within 48 hours. At this point, 2014 summer and fall programs are set to take place as scheduled and we are hopeful that the international community, Ukraine and Russia can seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

A safety update from Eastern European Study Abroad

EESA would like to issue an update on the situation in Ukraine.  At this time, EESA does not foresee any threat to the students currently in Kharkiv and is taking all necessary measurements to maintain a safe environment for all EESA participants. Furthermore, EESA would like to state that the 2014 programs for the summer and fall will be taking place as scheduled. EESA anticipates that by the beginning of these terms, the situation in Ukraine will be stabilized and safe.

Summer Intensive Russian Language program announced!

Come spend 4 or 8 weeks this summer perfecting your Russian! EESA’s summer intensive language program is offered to undergraduate, graduate and high school students looking to fully immerse themselves in the language in culture. The program entails 20 hrs+ of language classes per week, full cultural immersion, Russian-only speaking environment, learning activities and speaking clubs outside of classroom. Ukrainian language program is also available. All language courses are offered at any level from beginning to advanced.

While studying abroad with EESA, I was able to converse with Ukrainian people my own age, and not only did this give me a better understanding of the language, and of my own cultural identity, shaped as it is by nearly eighteen years of life in New York City, but this interaction really deepened my appreciation of a certain universal quality, something that makes people immediately relatable, regardless of background.
