Cell phonesCell phones are mandatory for all students while studying abroad with EESA. Phones must be charged and turned on at all times. EESA uses cell phones to contact students in case of emergency. Students will have an option of renting a cell phone before they leave U.S. or purchasing a phone once they get to Ukraine. Upon arrival, there will be an informative session on cell phone options, where students will be able to choose their own provider and plan. In Ukraine, all incoming calls are free (including calls from the USA), and outgoing calls are relatively inexpensive. Most of the time, EESA students choose plans that give them either free or very low promotional price to talk to other students in the program. By making cell phones mandatory, EESA ensures that students can be reached at any time both by EESA and their parents, should an emergency occur. EESA uses phone calls and mass messaging system to provide evacuation instructions in case of crisis, although such situation is highly unlikely.
